What the trailers show is romance and intimacy, not sex. There is a meaningful difference between a game building its story around an emotionally central relationship and a game depicting explicit acts. GTA 6 has clearly done the former. What is not confirmed
Whether GTA 6 contains explicit or interactive sex scenes is unconfirmed. A widely repeated claim, traceable to the 2022 and 2024 leaks, says the game will not include explicit sex scenes at all, supposedly to keep it inside ratings-board limits. That is a tidy-sounding idea and it fits the way modern Rockstar behaves, but it is Leak / rumour and unverified. We never present it as a Rockstar statement, and you should be wary of any headline that does.
So the verdict line is simple:

Why the M rating stops short of explicit acts
The ESRB has rated GTA 6 M (Mature 17+), which is Confirmed. An M rating permits "strong sexual content" and nudity as descriptors, which is why those words appear on the listing. It does not permit the explicit, pornographic-level depiction that pushes a game into the Adults Only (AO) band.
That distinction matters commercially, not just morally. Sony and Microsoft will not license AO-rated games for PS5 or Xbox, and major retailers will not stock them. We treat the descriptor as confirmed and the specifics as unconfirmed.
How GTA 6 compares with earlier games
Older Grand Theft Auto titles had crude humour, strip clubs and, in San Andreas, a hidden minigame that became infamous. That is useful Historical context, but it is not evidence about GTA 6.
